Influential Equine Therapy
Animal Assisted Therapy
WELCOME TO INFLUENTIAL EQUINE THERAPY
- where the animals are the teachers-
Here at Influential Equine Therapy we incorporate animals into our therapy sessions to assist our participants in achieving their therapeutic goals.
We currently offer Occupational Therapy, Counselling and Speech Therapy sessions where animals assist our participants throughout their learning journey. The highly experienced/registered therapists run their therapy sessions BUT they incorporate the horses/other animals and outdoor environment to improve engagement and offer differentiated learning experiences.
Refer to 'What We Offer' for further information.
Why Horses? Equine Therapy is a unique approach to using basic facilitation techniques and the intuitive nature of the horse for the purpose of helping individuals. Horses are extremely sensitive, aware of their surroundings, and quick to react. For mere survival, a wild horse must constantly be on guard. Through herd training, horses gain respect and trust for each other. They like to be part of a team, they listen, are non-judgemental and they give immediate feedback!
Equine Therapy is suitable for everyone! People of any age and may be able to assist people with a range of disabilities or diagnosis including but not limited to; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mental health disorders, ADHD/ADD, developmental delays.
There is no horse riding in Equine Therapy. This therapy is all delivered on the ground with the horse being the teacher and program run by a qualified therapist. The therapist will facilitate the learning and encourage the participant to learn new skills via exploration, experimentation and from simply DOING!
The safety of our learners/therapist and the welfare of our animals are our number one priority. Our animals have beautiful personalities, undergo suitability assessments and love teaching our learners but please understand that horses are animals with their own feelings and behaviours.
IET is holds all relevant insurances, completes ongoing risk assessments and NDIS Workers Screening, Working with Child Check and relevant registrations are held by all therapist (therapy registrations can be provided on request).
Please note: we are delivering allied health therapeutic services and incorporate horses and other animals into our therapy sessions. All of our services are inline with NDIS price guide and NDIS guidelines.
